Energy to the Edge (E2E)
Energy generation, storage, and management are critical components of military mission profiles at the tactical edge. The current energy sources and methods the US Military’s relies on to meet its mission requirements exposes it to undue risk for supply disruption, as well as security vulnerabilities affecting battlefield fuel supply lines. Inefficiencies in energy management, distribution, and consumption limits overall readiness and combat effectiveness and increases budget volatility during a period of extended fiscal austerity. In addition, energy inefficiency at the tactical edge:
- Increases the threat of attacks on deployed units and supply convoys;
- Elevates risk to the mission and limits effective and agile command and control;
- Burdens logistics systems resulting in both higher direct and opportunity costs.
Task
- Identifying and assessing energy generation, distribution, and storage technologies for tactical edge applications;
- Evaluating the efficiency and reliability of expeditionary energy solutions ;
- Applying user-centered design approaches to guide technology selection and development processes
- Modeling alternative expeditionary camp configurations to identify opportunities for optimal energy solutions and applications.
Skills
- Modeling and simulation;
- User-centered design;
- Data analytics;
- Technology domain analysis.
